After WrestleMania VIII in April of 1992, news sources began to allege that Dr. George Zahorian, a doctor for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission, had been selling steroids illegally to wrestlers and Hogan in particular. Hogan appeared on an episode of The Arsenio Hall Show to deny the allegations.

On January 19, 1992 the WWF’s 5th annual Royal Rumble was held at the Knickerbocker Arena in Albany, New York. This Rumble was notable because for the first time in WWF history, the last man standing would win the WWF World Heavyweight Championship, which had been vacated in December 1991. This man was Ric Flair, who eliminated Sid Justice with the help of Hulk Hogan from the outside. Flair entered the Rumble at number three and lasted just over an hour.
